Death of a Ladies’ Man
Packaging Design
Fall 2025: Photography II
Objective:
Use type and image to develop a re-imagined LP and CD packaging design for a pre-existing album.
Released in 1977, Death of a Ladies’ Man is Leonard Cohen’s most polarizing album. The album was created amidst a haze of alcohol-fueled madness and released to mixed reviews. Since its release, the album has gained a cult following.
To reflect the album’s themes of regret, intimacy, and desire, my initial photography experimented with the struggle between bravado and shame.
I collaged several of my photos together to further express the album’s themes of fractured self.
The grain of my scanned images was then emphasized and a layer of pink was added over top to echo the album’s lovesick lyrics and drunken, lethargic sound.
